Are you looking for something new and extraordinary to draw in additional visitors to your museum?
You have come to the right place...
Education is at the heart of Shackleton Legacy. If any historical object could inspire men and women without articulating a single word, a life-size seaworthy replica of Sir Ernest Shackleton's legendary lifeboat equipped with period correct sailing gear, navigation instruments, personal equipment and provisions could do it!
When considering buying or hiring the J. CAIRD please remember that the boat requires lots of space. The lifeboat is 23 feet long and 8 feet wide. The combined length of both her bespoke transporter trailer and towing vehicle is 35 feet long, therefore the turning circle required by the towing vehicle is similar to that of a long Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV).
If you plan on displaying the boat, you will require a minimum clearance height of 16 feet and a width of 12 feet for easy access. For a good static display, period equipment display, and information boards, please allow a space approximately 30 x 18 feet. Ensure access to you display area is clear of low overhangs, low public bridges, etc, remembering that gate posts and door frames must be measured to ensure sufficient clearance. The adjacent diagram will give you a good idea of the footprint and the space required once the display has been erected. Please remember that we need sufficient room to maneuver the lifeboat and trailer whilst assembling the vessel either indoors or outdoors.
To increase the opportunity for quality photographs, it is also advised that the lifeboat be positioned in an area with suitable lighting so it can be photographed from a distance if possible.
We are more than happy to advise and lend a hand in setting up your temporary or permanent museum display, if you wish to sail the boat we can also advise on the necessary safety precautions and provide the skills necessary in getting the most action out of the most accurate replica of Shackleton's Antarctic escape pod every built!
